Final 2014 Fleet Announced
The Pendennis Cup 2014 takes place from the 26th-31st May, with the start and finish points located off Pendennis Head looking towards St Anthony’s lighthouse. During the week a central Race Office Marquee will be located on Events Square, Falmouth, Cornwall with the yachts already beginning to arrive at Port Pendennis Marina (behind the National Maritime Museum Cornwall) where they will be based before and after the racing.
This year Pendennis Shipyard has confirmed that 11 yachts with a total length of over 350m will be competing, and is delighted to welcome back the 65m Adix as she has been a regular visitor to the yard for refit works. Adix will compete against Mariette of 1915, who won the event in 2012 and has competed in all four regattas. Mariette will be celebrating her centenary in 2015, and is currently hauled out for short works at Pendennis. Also joining the start line this year will be Pendennis-built ketches Christopher and Rebecca. They last challenged each other at the 2011 St Barth’s Bucket but this will be the first time they have raced together in UK waters. Also returning are the yachts Velacarina and Breakaway who raced in the 2012 edition, with the wooden ketch Kelpie of Falmouth, who is currently finishing major restoration in Gweek, entering the regatta for the first time. The Little Dennis Class, which comprises of yachts less than 15m (waterline) includes Zarik, Cuilaun, Cerinthe and Firebrand which is owned by esteemed yacht designer Ed Dubois and is returning to defend her 2012 Class title.
Mike Carr, Director of Pendennis, commented “Each edition of the Pendennis Cup has increased in popularity and has become recognized as one of the best regattas both for sailing and shore side activities. Pendennis is looking forward to hosting over 700 guests, crews, sponsors and suppliers at this year’s regatta which promises to be one of the most competitive and memorable yet.”
